Youth Leadership & Peace Ambassadors

Youth living in diaspora settings—particularly in refugee camps and post-conflict host communities—often grow up in environments shaped by displacement, economic hardship, and unresolved social tensions. Many young people have experienced trauma, interrupted education, and limited access to structured leadership development opportunities. In the absence of positive engagement platforms, youth may feel marginalized, frustrated, or disconnected from community decision-making processes.

Community-level disputes—often rooted in past conflict, resource competition, or social fragmentation—can persist in displacement settings. Without constructive dialogue and conflict resolution mechanisms, minor disagreements may escalate, affecting social cohesion and long-term stability. Despite their potential to serve as bridges between communities, many youth lack formal training in mediation, nonviolent communication, and dialogue facilitation.

At the same time, limited access to entrepreneurship training and economic empowerment opportunities restricts youth’s ability to contribute productively to their families and communities. High unemployment and underemployment rates among refugee youth increase vulnerability to negative coping mechanisms and social disengagement.

As a result:

•Youth leadership potential remains underdeveloped

•Community conflicts may remain unresolved or escalate

•Youth voices are underrepresented in peace and governance processes

•Economic vulnerability among youth persists

•Social cohesion and intercommunity trust remain fragile

Without intentional investment in youth leadership, peacebuilding, and entrepreneurship development, diaspora communities risk losing a generation of capable change-makers.
