Standing Committees

Programmatic Pillars for Service Delivery and Community Impact

The Standing Committees of the Nuba Mountains International Association (NMIA) are permanent programmatic bodies established to plan, coordinate, and implement the Association’s activities across its core thematic areas.

These committees serve as the operational engines of NMIA, translating the organization’s vision, mission, and strategic plans into practical programs and services for the Nuba people in the diaspora and the homeland.

Each Standing Committee operates under the guidance of the National Executive Leadership and reports through its respective Secretary.

1. List of Standing Committees

NMIA shall maintain the following Standing Committees:

  • Education & Capacity Building Committee
  • Health & Public Sanitation Committee
  • Social & Cultural Heritages Committee
  • Gender & Women Empowerment Committee
  • Advocacy & Human Rights Committee
  • Economic Development & Resource Mobilization Committee
  • Reconciliation & Peacebuilding Committee
  • Disaster Management & Humanitarian Affairs Committee
  • Youth Connection & Generations Development Committee
  • Coordination & Foreign Relations Committee

2. General Duties and Responsibilities

All Standing Committees shall:

  • Develop annual action plans aligned with NMIA’s strategic goals
  • Design and implement programs within their thematic mandate
  • Coordinate closely with relevant Executive Secretaries
  • Engage communities, beneficiaries, and partners
  • Mobilize technical expertise and volunteer support
  • Monitor activities and document results
  • Submit quarterly and annual reports to the National Executive Leadership
  • Uphold NMIA’s values, Code of Conduct, and governance principles

3. Purpose of Standing Committees

The Standing Committees are established to:

  • Ensure focused and professional program implementation
  • Promote specialization and accountability within thematic areas
  • Strengthen community participation and volunteer engagement
  • Enhance coordination and efficiency across NMIA structures
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of programs

4. Composition of Each Standing Committee

Each Standing Committee shall consist of:

  • Chairperson – appointed by the National Executive Leadership
  • Secretary – responsible for coordination, documentation, and reporting
  • 3–7 Committee Members – selected based on expertise, experience, and commitment


Membership shall reflect gender balance, youth inclusion, and representation of diverse Nuba communities.

5. Accountability and Reporting

  • Standing Committees report to the National Executive Leadership through their designated Secretary.
  • Financial and programmatic activities are subject to internal review and audit.
  • Committees may be reviewed, restructured, or expanded by the Executive Leadership with approval of the Board of Trustees, as needed.

6. Coordination Among Committees

To ensure coherence and avoid duplication:

  • Committees shall collaborate on cross-cutting issues (e.g., gender, youth, peace).
  • Joint meetings may be convened for integrated programs.
  • The Coordination & Foreign Relations Committee shall support inter-committee and external coordination.
