Health & Sanitation

Promoting Lifesaving Health, Hygiene, and Well-Being for All Nuba Communities

Overview

Health is the foundation of human dignity and development. The Nuba Mountains International Association  (NMIA) recognizes that many Nuba communities — both in the homeland and diaspora — continue to face severe health and sanitation challenges due to years of war, poverty, and limited infrastructure.

Through its Health & Public Sanitation Committee, NMIA works to improve access to basic healthcare, clean water, hygiene education, and preventive services, while also strengthening community-based health systems and capacity for long-term sustainability.

The program promotes a vision of “Healthy People, Healthy Communities” — ensuring that every Nuba person has the right to a safe, healthy, and dignified life.

Purpose

The Health & Sanitation Program aims to:

  • Improve the overall health and well-being of Nuba communities.
  • Prevent disease and reduce health disparities.
  • Strengthen healthcare delivery systems in rural and displaced settings.
  • Promote hygiene, sanitation, and environmental cleanliness.
  • Build community resilience through health education and awareness.

Possible Services and Interventions

Below are the core services NMIA can deliver in the area of Health & Sanitation:

“Health is not a privilege — it is a right. By restoring health and sanitation, NMIA restores the promise of life itself.”
