International Branches

Global Presence, Regional Coordination, and Homeland Connection

The International Branches of the Nuba Mountains International Association (NMIA) represent the organization’s global extension beyond the United States, established to serve Nuba communities living outside the U.S. and to strengthen coordination with the Nuba people in homeland.

These branches operate as affiliated entities under the guidance of NMIA, ensuring consistency in mission, governance, and accountability while responding to regional realities and community needs.

Purpose

International Branches are established to:

  • Support and organize Nuba communities living outside the United States
  • Facilitate humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding programs
  • Strengthen diaspora–homeland linkages
  • Coordinate advocacy, resource mobilization, and community outreach
  • Serve as regional platforms for cooperation with governments and partners
Key International Presence 

NMIA currently maintains and recognizes international branches and coordination offices in:

  • Chapter Chairperson
  • Egypt – Founding registration and early diaspora coordination
  • South Sudan – Regional coordination, humanitarian access, and registration facilitation
  • Homeland (Nuba Mountains / South Kordofan, Sudan) – Community-based engagement, peacebuilding, and development coordination


Additional international branches may be established in other countries where significant Nuba populations reside, subject to approval by the National Executive Leadership and Board of Trustees.

Structure of International Branches

Each International Branch shall operate with a structure aligned to NMIA standards, typically including:

  • Branch Coordinator / Chairperson
  • Deputy Coordinator
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Program Focal Persons (as needed)
  • Branch leadership may be appointed or endorsed by NMIA, in consultation with local community representatives.
Roles and Responsibilities

International Branches shall:

  • Represent NMIA within their host countries
  • Implement approved programs and humanitarian activities
  • Coordinate with local authorities, NGOs, and community leaders
  • Mobilize resources and support for homeland initiatives
  • Collect community data and report emerging needs
  • Submit regular narrative and financial reports to the National Secretariat
  • Uphold NMIA Constitution, policies, and Code of Conduct
Accountability and Governance
  • International Branches operate under the authority of the National Executive Leadership
  • Major decisions, budgets, and partnerships require national approval
  • Financial activities are subject to oversight and audit
  • Branches must comply with both NMIA policies and host-country laws

International Branches enable NMIA functions as a transnational, community-rooted institution, ensuring that Nuba people are supported wherever they live while maintaining a strong, coordinated link to the homeland.
