Background

Who we are and why we exist

The Nuba Mountains International Association was founded by indigenous Nuba people living in the diaspora, particularly in the United States, with a deep commitment to supporting their communities both abroad and in the Nuba Mountains Region of Sudan.

The organization was established in response to decades of conflict, marginalization, and displacement that have affected the Nuba people — leading to poverty, illiteracy, poor healthcare, and loss of cultural identity.

NMIA emerged as a unifying platform to mobilize Nuba professionals, youth, women, and community leaders toward rebuilding their society through education, empowerment, advocacy, and humanitarian action.
