The Nuba Mountains have endured prolonged conflict, political instability, displacement, and weakened institutional structures. As a result, generations of young people have grown up in an environment where formal civic education, governance transparency, and structured leadership development opportunities are limited or absent. Many youth have witnessed fragile public institutions, inconsistent service delivery, and limited mechanisms for accountability.
This situation has significantly affected young people in several ways:
•Limited understanding of civic rights and responsibilities
•Low participation in community decision-making processes
•Weak trust between youth and local leadership structures
•Increased vulnerability to manipulation, division, or political exploitation
•Reduced engagement in constructive community service initiatives
Without structured leadership formation and civic education, young people lack the skills and confidence needed to contribute meaningfully to local governance systems.
The absence of accountability culture and participatory civic engagement further weakens social cohesion and slows community development.
If not addressed, this gap risks creating a generation disconnected from governance processes and unprepared to assume responsible leadership roles in the future.
Purpose of the Project
