Women-Led Microenterprise Grants

Women living in diaspora settings—particularly in refugee camps and underserved host communities—often face severe economic exclusion due to displacement, limited access to capital, restricted employment opportunities, and structural barriers within informal markets. Many women possess practical skills in food preparation, tailoring, small trading, crafts, and services, yet lack the financial resources needed to transform these skills into viable income-generating businesses.

In displacement environments, access to formal credit institutions is often unavailable, and traditional financial systems may require collateral that women do not possess. As a result, women with entrepreneurial potential remain economically dependent on irregular income sources or humanitarian assistance. Without access to seed capital, even well-developed business ideas cannot be launched or expanded.

Additionally, many women lack structured market linkage support, limiting their ability to identify buyers, negotiate fair prices, access supply chains, or expand beyond local informal trade networks.

As a result:

•Women remain economically vulnerable and dependent

•Household incomes remain unstable or insufficient

•Families face continued food insecurity and financial stress

•Youth education may be disrupted due to lack of income

•Women’s entrepreneurial skills remain underutilized

Without targeted seed funding and structured market support, the cycle of poverty and economic dependency continues, affecting entire families and communities.

Purpose of the Project

The Women-Led Microenterprise Grants project aims to empower women economically by providing seed funding for small businesses, coupled with structured business development and market linkage support. The initiative seeks to transform women’s skills into sustainable enterprises that generate consistent income and strengthen household resilience.

The project will implement the following activities:

•Competitive small seed grant disbursement for viable women-led business proposals

•Business planning and financial management training

•Entrepreneurship and market analysis workshops

•Mentorship and coaching support for grant recipients

•Market linkage facilitation with local buyers and suppliers

•Formation of women entrepreneur networks or cooperatives

•Monitoring and advisory support to ensure business sustainability

•Development of savings and reinvestment practices

Project Outcomes & Beneficiary Impact

Through this initiative, beneficiaries will experience:

•Increased access to startup capital

•Improved business management and financial literacy skills

•Enhanced ability to generate stable income

•Greater household financial security

•Reduced dependency on humanitarian aid

•Strengthened women-led business networks

•Increased community economic activity

Ultimately, the Women-Led Microenterprise Grants project will enable women to move from economic vulnerability to economic leadership—contributing not only to their families’ well-being but also to the broader economic resilience of diaspora communities.
