Maternal & Child Health Support

Women and children living in diaspora settings—particularly in refugee camps and underserved host communities—face significant barriers to accessing adequate maternal and child healthcare services. Displacement, poverty, overcrowding, limited health infrastructure, and inadequate nutrition often place pregnant women, new mothers, and young children at heightened health risk.

Many expectant mothers lack access to consistent prenatal education, regular antenatal check-ups, and essential information about safe pregnancy practices. Limited awareness about maternal nutrition, breastfeeding, newborn care, and hygiene practices can increase the risk of complications during pregnancy and childbirth. Additionally, shortages of hygiene supplies and basic maternal kits may expose mothers and infants to preventable infections.

Children under five in displacement contexts are particularly vulnerable to malnutrition, poor sanitation, and preventable illnesses. Without targeted support, these challenges may lead to higher maternal and infant morbidity, developmental delays, and long-term health consequences.

As a result:

•Pregnant women may face preventable health complications

•Newborns may be exposed to unsafe hygiene conditions

•Malnutrition among mothers and children may increase

•Infant and child illnesses may go untreated or unmanaged

•Families may lack knowledge of essential maternal and child health practices

Without structured maternal and child health interventions, preventable health risks will continue to affect vulnerable families and undermine long-term community resilience.

Purpose of the Project
