Many women within diaspora communities in the United States face economic challenges as they navigate resettlement, workforce integration, and financial stability. While they contribute significantly to household income and community life, barriers such as limited access to capital, unfamiliarity with U.S. business systems, language challenges, lack of credit history, and limited exposure to financial literacy education often restrict their economic advancement.
Some women possess entrepreneurial talents—such as cooking, tailoring, childcare services, cultural arts, or home-based production—but lack structured guidance on business registration, compliance requirements, marketing strategies, digital platforms, and financial management. Others may be underemployed despite professional qualifications due to credential recognition gaps or limited professional networks. Additionally, limited understanding of credit systems, banking processes, and financial planning tools can hinder long-term wealth-building opportunities. Without targeted economic empowerment programs, women may remain economically vulnerable, limiting their ability to support their families, invest in education, or contribute fully to community development.
As a result:
•Women-owned businesses remain informal or underdeveloped
•Household economic stability may remain fragile
•Financial dependency may persist
•Credit-building opportunities may be missed
•Long-term wealth accumulation becomes difficult
Without intentional intervention, economic inequities and barriers to entrepreneurship will continue to limit women’s full participation in economic life.
