Peace Education Workshops

Refugee and diaspora communities often carry the social, political, and emotional impacts of prolonged conflict, displacement, and instability. In host countries, individuals from diverse tribal, political, and regional backgrounds are brought together under conditions of economic stress, limited resources, and uncertain futures. These pressures can increase misunderstandings, tension, and mistrust within communities.

Many individuals have not had access to formal peace education or structured training in nonviolent communication, dialogue facilitation, or civic coexistence principles. As a result, conflicts—whether interpersonal, inter-tribal, generational, or political—may be addressed through reactive or emotionally driven responses rather than constructive dialogue.

In the absence of peace education frameworks:

•Minor disagreements can escalate into prolonged disputes

•Youth may replicate conflict-based narratives learned from past experiences

•Community leaders may lack structured tools for mediation

•Social cohesion within refugee settlements may weaken

•Cooperation with host communities may face barriers

Without proactive peace education and communication training, communities remain vulnerable to cycles of misunderstanding and division that hinder resilience and development.

Purpose of the Project

The Peace Education Workshops project aims to equip community members—especially youth, women, and local leaders—with practical skills in nonviolent communication, dialogue facilitation, and civic coexistence. The initiative seeks to cultivate a culture of peaceful interaction, mutual respect, and responsible civic engagement within diaspora and refugee communities.

•Nonviolent communication (NVC) training workshops

•Civic coexistence education sessions

•Conflict resolution and dialogue facilitation exercises

•Interactive role-play and case study simulations
