Youth within Nuba and broader Sudanese diaspora communities in the United States are growing up in a socially complex environment shaped by migration experiences, intergenerational tensions, identity challenges, and exposure to divisive narratives—both offline and online. Many young people witness community disagreements, political polarization, tribal divisions, and social media conflicts that influence perceptions and relationships within their peer networks.
In digital spaces particularly, misinformation, inflammatory rhetoric, and hate-based narratives can spread quickly. Youth may lack structured training in critical thinking, responsible digital engagement, conflict de-escalation, and constructive dialogue. Without positive engagement platforms, some young people may become disengaged from community affairs or influenced by divisive content.
Additionally, youth often express a desire to contribute meaningfully to their communities but lack structured leadership pathways to channel their energy into peacebuilding initiatives. The absence of youth-centered peace platforms limits opportunities for:
•Positive peer leadership development
•Responsible social media engagement
•Community-based peace advocacy
•Intercultural bridge-building
•Constructive response to hate or misinformation
If youth are not empowered as agents of unity, the cycle of misunderstanding and division may persist across generations.
