Youth Skills & Income Generation Programs

In many diaspora and refugee-hosting countries, displaced youth face high levels of unemployment, economic marginalization, and limited access to formal labor markets. Due to interrupted education, lack of professional networks, legal work restrictions, and insufficient vocational opportunities, many young people struggle to secure stable income. Prolonged displacement has created a generation of youth with untapped potential but limited pathways toward economic participation.

As a result, youth experience financial dependency, frustration, and diminished hope for long-term stability. Without marketable and modern skills aligned with current economic trends, many are confined to low-paying informal jobs or remain unemployed. In some cases, prolonged idleness increases vulnerability to social instability, negative coping mechanisms, or exploitation.

Despite these challenges, the growing demand for mobile phone repair services, renewable energy solutions such as solar installations, and digital freelancing opportunities presents a unique opportunity for youth to access sustainable income streams. However, without structured training, technical equipment, mentorship, and digital access, these opportunities remain out of reach for most displaced youth.

Purpose of the Project

The Youth Skills & Income Generation Program aims to equip vulnerable youth with practical, high-demand technical and digital skills that enable them to secure employment or establish self-employment ventures. By focusing on mobile phone repair, solar installation training, and digital freelancing skills, the program seeks to promote economic self-reliance, innovation, and resilience among displaced youth.

Key Project Activities

The project will implement the following activities:

•Market analysis to identify local demand for technical and digital services

•Enrollment and selection of eligible youth participants

•Hands-on training in mobile phone repair and maintenance

•Solar installation and renewable energy systems training

•Digital freelancing skills development (graphic design, content writing, data entry, online services)

•Provision of starter tool kits and basic equipment

•Business and financial literacy training

•Mentorship and apprenticeship placement opportunities

•Creation of youth cooperative service groups where applicable

•Ongoing monitoring and income tracking

Project Outcomes & Beneficiary Impact

Through this initiative, beneficiaries will experience:

•Acquisition of practical and market-relevant technical skills

•Increased employment and self-employment opportunities

•Immediate income generation through service provision

•Reduced dependency on humanitarian aid

Ultimately, the Youth Skills & Income Generation Program will empower displaced youth to transform modern technical and digital skills into sustainable livelihoods, strengthening community resilience and long-term economic development.
