In many diaspora and refugee-hosting countries, displaced individuals—particularly youth and women—face persistent unemployment and underemployment due to limited access to formal education, restricted labor markets, and lack of certified technical skills. Many beneficiaries come from rural or conflict-affected backgrounds where their education was disrupted, preventing them from acquiring practical trade skills needed to compete in host-country economies.
As a result, large segments of the displaced population remain economically inactive or confined to informal, low-paying jobs. Without marketable skills in trades such as carpentry, mechanics, welding, tailoring, fashion design, or agricultural value addition, families struggle to generate stable income. Youth are especially vulnerable to frustration, idleness, and negative coping mechanisms due to the absence of structured economic opportunities. Women also face limited access to tools and training that would allow them to engage in productive, income-generating activities.
Even when individuals complete short-term training programs, they often lack the essential tool kits required to begin working independently. Without startup equipment, newly acquired skills cannot translate into economic gain. This gap between training and practical implementation perpetuates poverty, dependency on humanitarian assistance, and long-term vulnerability.
Purpose of the Project
The Vocational Training & Tool Kits project aims to bridge the gap between skill acquisition and income generation by providing practical, market-oriented vocational training along with essential tool kits that enable beneficiaries to immediately apply their skills. The program seeks to promote economic self-reliance, enhance employability, and strengthen community resilience.
Key Project Activities
The project will implement the following activities:
•Market assessment to identify high-demand vocational skills
•Enrollment and selection of vulnerable youth and women
•Delivery of hands-on vocational training in trades such as carpentry, mechanics, welding, tailoring, fashion design, and agricultural value-add processing
•Certification or recognition of completed training
•Distribution of starter tool kits relevant to each trade
•Business management and financial literacy training
•Mentorship and technical follow-up support
•Formation of cooperative trade groups where applicable
•Monitoring income generation and employment outcomes
Project Outcomes & Beneficiary Impact
Through this initiative, beneficiaries will experience:
•Acquisition of practical, market-relevant technical skills
•Immediate ability to generate income using provided tool kits
•Increased employment and self-employment opportunities
•Enhanced economic independence and reduced reliance on aid
•Greater inclusion of women and youth in economic activities
•Strengthened household income and food security
•Development of local service and trade capacity within communities
•Increased community resilience and social stability
Ultimately, the Vocational Training & Tool Kits project will transform skills into sustainable livelihoods, enabling displaced individuals to rebuild their economic dignity and contribute productively to their host communities.
“Skills in the hands of the willing become tools of transformation.”
