Many members of our community in the United States—particularly refugees, immigrants, and first-generation professionals—face significant barriers to entering the skilled workforce despite possessing prior education, professional experience, or strong motivation to succeed. Foreign credentials are often not recognized, licensing requirements are complex, and professional certification exams can be costly and difficult to navigate without structured support.
As a result, many capable individuals remain underemployed or unemployed, working in low-wage jobs that do not reflect their qualifications or potential. This underemployment leads to financial instability, limited career mobility, reduced self-confidence, and prolonged dependency on social assistance programs. Youth and young adults also struggle to identify clear career pathways in high-demand sectors such as IT, healthcare, logistics, construction, and skilled trades due to lack of access to affordable certification training and exam preparation resources.
Without targeted intervention, these skills gap not only affects individual livelihoods but also prevents the broader community from fully contributing to economic growth and workforce development within the United States.
