Youth Civic Engagement Program

Many youths from immigrant, refugee, and historically underserved communities in the United States face limited access to civic education, leadership development, and structured opportunities for participation in public decision-making processes. Although they are deeply affected by policies related to education, employment, immigration, housing, and social justice, many young people lack awareness of how civic systems function or how to effectively engage with them.

As a result, youth voices are often underrepresented in civic institutions, local government forums, and policy discussions. Limited exposure to leadership councils, civic institutions, and policy processes contributes to low levels of civic participation, voter engagement, and public service involvement. Without mentorship and structured pathways into civic spaces, youth may feel disconnected from governance systems and discouraged from pursuing careers in public service or advocacy.

This gap in civic engagement restricts the development of future community leaders and weakens democratic participation within underserved communities. Without targeted programs to build civic literacy and provide hands-on experience, the next generation may lack the skills, confidence, and networks necessary to influence policy and promote equitable change.
