Young people living in refugee and diaspora communities in many host countries face significant barriers to personal development, employment, and meaningful civic participation. Displacement, interrupted education, limited access to technology, and restricted economic opportunities often leave youth feeling marginalized and uncertain about their future. Many lack access to structured life skills training, digital education, and leadership development opportunities that would enable them to thrive in rapidly evolving social and economic environments.
As a result, youth unemployment remains high, digital literacy gaps persist, and participation in community decision-making processes is limited. Without practical skills such as communication, teamwork, financial literacy, critical thinking, and digital competence, young people struggle to access employment or entrepreneurship opportunities. Additionally, the absence of structured leadership pathways reduces youth engagement in community mobilization and constructive social action, increasing the risk of frustration, disengagement, and vulnerability to negative influences.
The lack of youth-focused leadership and skills development programs weakens community resilience and limits the emergence of capable future leaders. Without targeted investment in youth empowerment, communities risk losing a generation of potential innovators, advocates, and change-makers.
