Community-based Organization Capacity Building

Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) within refugee and diaspora communities play a vital role in delivering services, advocating for rights, and mobilizing local resources. However, many CBOs operate with limited technical capacity, informal governance structures, and minimal access to institutional funding. Leaders and volunteers often serve with dedication but lack formal training in organizational management, financial oversight, compliance requirements, and strategic planning.

As a result, CBOs may struggle to sustain operations, meet donor reporting standards, or effectively compete for grants and partnership opportunities. Weak proposal development skills and limited resource mobilization strategies restrict access to funding, leaving important community needs unmet. Inadequate governance systems can also lead to internal misunderstandings, reduced transparency, and diminished community trust.

Without structured capacity-building initiatives, many CBOs remain dependent on small donations or short-term assistance, limiting their long-term impact and sustainability. The absence of professional development opportunities for grassroots organizations hinders institutional growth, weakens service delivery, and reduces community resilience.
