Support Educational Infrastructures

Years of armed conflict and instability in the Nuba Mountains have resulted in widespread destruction of public infrastructure, including schools in rural settlements. Many educational facilities were damaged or completely demolished, leaving children to study in temporary shelters, under trees, or in overcrowded and unsafe structures. In some communities, schools ceased operating altogether due to insecurity and lack of reconstruction resources. As a result, beneficiaries—particularly children and youth—have experienced:

•Interrupted access to formal education

•Unsafe and inadequate learning environments

•Overcrowded classrooms or open-air teaching spaces

•Shortage of desks, chalkboards, and teaching materials

•Lack of essential school supplies and stationery

•Increased dropout rates, especially among girls

•Declining student motivation and attendance

Families already facing economic hardship are often unable to provide notebooks, pens, textbooks, uniforms, and other essential materials. Teachers struggle to deliver quality instruction without basic infrastructure and resources. This situation not only weakens academic performance but also undermines long-term social and economic development in rural communities.

Without targeted investment in rebuilding and equipping schools, an entire generation risks losing access to foundational education—deepening cycles of poverty and limiting future opportunities.

Purpose of the Project

The Support Educational Infrastructures project seeks to rebuild demolished schools in rural settlements and provide essential school supplies and stationery to students and teachers. The initiative aims to restore safe, functional, and conducive learning environments that promote educational access, retention, and academic success.

Key Project Activities

To achieve its objectives, the project will implement the following activities:

•Assessment of damaged and demolished school structures

•Reconstruction and rehabilitation of rural school buildings

•Construction of classrooms, sanitation facilities, and basic infrastructure

•Provision of desks, chairs, chalkboards, and teaching aids

•Distribution of school supply kits (notebooks, textbooks, pens, stationery)

•Support for teacher resource materials

•Community engagement in school rebuilding efforts

•Monitoring of student attendance and retention rates

These activities will combine physical infrastructure development with material support to ensure sustainable educational access.

Project Outcomes & Beneficiary Impact

Through this initiative, beneficiaries will experience:

•Restored access to safe and structured learning environments

•Increased school enrollment and attendance rates

•Reduced dropout rates, particularly among vulnerable children

•Improved teaching effectiveness due to adequate facilities

•Enhanced student motivation and academic performance

•Strengthened community ownership of education systems

•Long-term improvement in literacy and educational attainment

Ultimately, the Support Educational Infrastructures project will rebuild the foundation of learning in the Nuba Mountains. By reconstructing schools and supplying essential materials, the initiative will create stable and supportive environments where children can pursue education with dignity, safety, and hope for a brighter future.
