Sustainable Energy Solution

In many diaspora and refugee-hosting countries, displaced families live in settlements with limited access to reliable and affordable energy sources. The majority of households depend on firewood, charcoal, and kerosene for cooking and lighting. These traditional energy sources are inefficient, expensive over time, and harmful to both health and the environment.

As a result, women and children spend long hours collecting firewood, often walking significant distances and exposing themselves to safety risks. Indoor cooking with firewood and charcoal produces harmful smoke, leading to respiratory illnesses, eye infections, and other chronic health problems. Children’s ability to study after dark is limited due to lack of reliable lighting, negatively affecting educational performance. Small home-based businesses are also constrained by inadequate lighting and power access.

Additionally, unsustainable fuel collection contributes to deforestation and environmental degradation in host communities, creating tension over scarce natural resources. Without access to clean energy alternatives, displaced households remain vulnerable to health risks, financial strain, and limited economic productivity.

Purpose of the Project

The Sustainable Energy Solutions project aims to improve living conditions and economic opportunities by supporting the distribution of clean cooking stoves and solar lighting systems. The initiative seeks to reduce energy poverty, improve health outcomes, promote environmental sustainability, and enhance household productivity.

Key Project Activities

The project will implement the following activities:

•Assessment of household energy needs

•Procurement and distribution of clean cooking stoves

•Distribution of solar lighting kits and portable solar systems

•Training on safe use and maintenance of energy technologies

•Community awareness campaigns on clean energy benefits

•Establishment of local distribution and maintenance networks

•Promotion of micro-finance or installment payment options

•Monitoring household health and environmental impact indicators

Project Outcomes & Beneficiary Impact

Through this initiative, beneficiaries will experience:

•Reduced exposure to indoor air pollution and respiratory illnesses

•Improved safety and reduced time spent collecting firewood

•Increased access to lighting for education and small businesses

•Reduced household expenditure on inefficient fuels

•Decreased environmental degradation and deforestation

•Enhanced economic productivity and livelihood opportunities

•Strengthened climate resilience and sustainability awareness

•Improved overall quality of life in refugee communities

Ultimately, the Sustainable Energy Solutions project will transform household energy access into a pathway toward improved health, environmental protection, and economic empowerment for displaced families.
