Who We Are?

Building Unity, Dignity, and Development for Nuba People at Home and Abroad

Our Identity

The Nuba Mountains International Association (NMIA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, and community-based organization established and led by the indigenous Nuba people in the United States of America.

We exist to unite, empower, and serve the Nuba communities across the U.S. and to extend solidarity, humanitarian aid, and development support to our people in the Nuba Mountains Region of Sudan and beyond.

Our formation reflects the collective will of the Nuba diaspora to come together as one family — overcoming divisions of tribe, religion, or politics — and to work cooperatively for social progress, education, peace, and the restoration of the dignity and rights of the Nuba people.

Our Vision

To unify the Nuba people for common causes — restoring dignity, strengthening solidarity, and building a hopeful, prosperous, and peaceful future for all Nuba communities both in the diaspora and homeland.

Our Mission

To mobilize, organize, and empower the Nuba people in the diaspora to work collectively for social advancement, humanitarian relief, educational growth, and sustainable development — while upholding unity, inclusivity, and cultural pride.

Our Core Values

✅ Unity: We believe in one Nuba identity that transcends divisions.

✅ Integrity: We uphold honesty, accountability, and transparency in all actions.

✅ Service: We dedicate ourselves to serving our people with compassion and purpose.

✅ Inclusivity: We promote participation across gender, youth, and faith lines.

✅ Cultural Pride: We preserve and promote the rich heritage of the Nuba Mountains.

✅ Peace and Justice: We stand for human dignity, equality, and peaceful coexistence.

Our Goals

Our Work

We focus on education, health, humanitarian response, peacebuilding, women’s empowerment, economic development, youth engagement, and advocacy.

Through strategic partnerships, training, and community initiatives, NMIA mobilizes the strength of the Nuba diaspora to deliver impactful programs that uplift lives and rebuild hope for the Nuba Mountains region.

Our Structure

NMIA is governed through an inclusive and transparent leadership framework that ensures accountability and broad representation:

✅ General Assembly – Supreme decision-making body of members.

✅ Board of Trustees – Governing and oversight authority.

✅ National Executive Committee – Day-to-day operational leadership.

✅ State Chapters – Decentralized grassroots coordination units.

✅ Standing Committees – Ten specialized committees implementing programs.

✅ Advisory and Elders Council – Custodians of cultural wisdom and unity.

This structure ensures synergy between the diaspora community and homeland partnerships, connecting all Nuba people through a shared mission of progress and solidarity.

Our Commitment

We are committed to building a future where every Nuba child has access to education, every family lives in dignity, and every community enjoys peace, justice, and opportunity.

Together, we envision a united Nuba nation — proud of its identity, empowered in its potential, and resilient in the face of challenges.

Organizational Philosophy

The NMIA operates on the principles of unity, transparency, inclusivity, and service. It seeks to bring together Nuba people of all backgrounds and affiliations under one umbrella, promoting peace, justice, and progress through collective action and community-led initiatives.

“Who we are is rooted in unity; and we exist to unite, serve and empower our people, protect their dignity, and turn shared identity into collective strength.”
